From - P.C. Guy Service – Crime Prevention Officer – 43 Division

43 Division would like to advise community members that personal thefts and robberies of popular smartphones such as Iphones and Blackberrys are being reported across the GTA. Please be aware of your surroundings when using a cellular phone out in public.  Thieves are targeting people using their phones and waiting for the right opportunity to steal them when victims are distracted.  Many phones are being taken directly from users hands.

Always keep a record of your devices information such as serial number, model number and the International Mobile Equipment Identity number.  In the event your phone is stolen, police will require this information for their investigation.  The I M E I number is used by phone carriers to identify valid subscribers and equipment being used.  The number can be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad on most phones.  If you are a victim of a robbery or theft of cellphone or device, always call police report to it.
