President's Message
Thanks to everyone who came
out to our 16th Winterfest. This annual winter activity, co- sponsored by
CCRA, is always a fun outing for the whole family. A lot of people are
involved in organizing Winterfest as this is one of the major community
events of the year. Thanks to the committee for another great job.

Read the CCRA's
Action Plan against Trucking of Sludge to find out how to help
our next steps.
The Highland Creek Treatment Plant multihearth
incinerators are at the end of their service life. As a result, the
City of Toronto’s Biosolids Master Plan (BMP), a six-year study and
environmental assessment, recommended that fluidized bed incineration
be the preferred method for processing future solid waste at the
Highland Creek Treatment Plant. In May 2011, however, City Council went
against staff recommendation and voted to pursue trucking of sludge.
Please sign the C.C.R.A.’s
online petition or
paper petition that asks City
Council to reconsider its decision to truck solid waste at the Highland
Creek Treatment Plant or at minimum
require a comprehensive and consultative environmental
assessment of this method.
More information on this
issue and petition can be found in the
November 2011 Conservation Report.
